It requires a constant effort for me to maintain this balance and as such, I'm paradoxically relieved that distance keeps us apart.īut enough about that! Jane is in town working on a production for the Dutch National Opera, a 'Dog's Life' I believe it's called, and she had just finished up what turned out to be an eventful contract.
It worries me sometimes that she may be becoming too important to me and that our balance will start to dangerously skew. I miss her so much throughout the year, much more than I'd like to admit. It was so nice to see her again and we headed off directly, for a cup of coffee and a catch up. It took me about 10 minutes longer than it should have to reach Rembrantsplein where Jane's hotel is located and when I finally arrived, I couldn't actually find the hotel and we ended up meeting at the Opera House just down the road. The city is heaving with people at the moment and it was difficult navigating the crowds, both physically and emotionally. Let's just say it's very cosy.Īfter getting checked in I texted Jane and headed into Amsterdam to meet her at her hotel. The place is called the Train Lodge and is a converted night train. After a quick coffee at the airport I made my way to my hostel where I'll be spending my first 3 nights in Amsterdam. I believe the temperature was around 10 degrees, but with the wind off the canals, it was quite chilly. The flights were pretty comfortable, but I didn't get much sleep and I started feeling a bit nauseous towards the end of my flight from Toronto to Reykjavik, which was weird.Īnyways, Amsterdam was sunny, but a bit cold. I arrived at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport at about 20 minutes to 1:00pm after around 8 hours in the air and a short transfer in Reykjavik. I don't think it has really sunk in yet that I'm about to embark on another long-term trip around the world.
